The new square Hatch Seal
The rubber hatch seal for the Seahorse Kontiki.
Please select the STD, GPS, S30, S33, or S60 to get the correct seal for your Kontiki model.
This is the square profile, which gives more foam for the hatch to press into.
It means you do not have to wind the hatch on as tight as before.
To install the GPS hatch seal, start by applying a bead of SikaFlex around the lower edge of the hatch opening. Begin at the front of the hatch and position the seal along the body. Once you’re satisfied with the seal’s placement, carefully place the hatch onto the Kontiki and tighten it down onto the seal with light pressure. If the bottom of the seal shifts out of place, gently press it back in using a screwdriver or a similar tool. Allow the SikaFlex to set properly before you go fishing.
The Hatch Seal for the STD Kontiki has a profiled groove, allowing the hatch to fit into seal, holding it inplace.
To install the STD hatch seal, start by applying a bead of SikaFlex around the lower edge of the hatch opening. Next, roll the hatch seal so that the higher ridge is facing inward. Begin at the front of the hatch and carefully position the seal onto the body of the hatch. Once you are satisfied with the placement of the seal, place the hatch onto the Kontiki and gently tighten it down onto the seal with light pressure. If the bottom of the seal shifts out of place, use a tool like a screwdriver to press it back in. Allow the Sikaflex to set for a while before using the hatch.
The S33/S60 Seal is held inplace by the Seal Guard. If the seal gets damaged and needs replacing, it can be removed and replaced without removing the guard.
But if required, the guard can be unscrewed, the seal replaced and the guard screwed back into placed.
The S33 and S60 seals do not need SikaFlex. The seal can be replaced without removing the seal guard. If required, the seal guard can be removed and screwed back on after the seal has been replaced.
The S30 seal is made from rubber and is hard to damage.
Place a bead of SikaFlex in the corner of the moulding, place and gently push the seal into place and leave for 24 hours for the Sikaflex to set.
Most hatch seals leak because they are dirty and have sand either on or under the seal.
We can either send you a hatch seal to fit or you can bring your Kontiki to us, and we can replace it for the same price.
We recommend using an Adhesive such as Sikaflex 291i. This Marine Adhesive is available from Marine stores (such as Burnsco) or can be ordered here with the hatch seal. These small tubes help minimise waste.
