The lightweight Seahorse Green Lithium Battery is great for adding extra runtime and distance to your Kontikis runs, without adding weight. These batteries are designed to meet the demands of Kontiki fishing.
The Seahorse Green Lithium Batteries are available for use in the Seahorse GPS Kontiki or the STD Kontiki. This lithium does not fit into the new S33 or S60 Kontiki.
The Seahorse Lithium battery is a LiFePo4 Lithium battery, which operates at a slightly higher voltage than the Lead-Acid (SLA) battery. This allows the Lithium battery to power the Kontiki better through the surf than the SLA batteries.
The Seahorse Lithium batteries have a high C rating, indicating a high discharge current capability. This means the battery will perform optimally regardless of what its partner battery is doing. The Lithium battery is matched with an SLA battery as the GPS or STD Kontikis need the weight of the SLA battery to keep the Kontiki balanced.
Lithium batteries require a lithium battery charger. The Seahorse Lithium charger comes with a 3-plug loom, allowing up to three lithium batteries to be charged simultaneously. Lithium batteries are robust and can be discharged for a short period, such as a few days. This means there is less pressure to get the batteries charged.
We use the Lithium battery as a replacement for the SLA 14ah battery, and they can be used either in the Seahorse GPS or STD Kontikis, the winch or the Motorised Trolley. The advantages of Lithium batteries are many, including only weighing 1.5kg’s, compared to 4.5kg’s for the 14ah SLA battery, saving 3kg’s of weight. They deliver their full 11ah’s of power, where the SLA batteries only deliver slightly better that half of their rated amp hours, when used in the Kontiki unit. They hold their charge, and can be left either charged or discharged. A SLA battery will give up to 200 cycles before they fall to 60% of their original performance, while a Lithium battery can do many more cycles before reaching the same point. Being light, the Lithium battery is a great alternative to powering your electronics in kayaks, 3kg’s less weight to paddle around. In the Seahorse Kontikis the Lithium battery needs to be coupled with a SLA battery, as the Kontikis are designed for the weight of the SLA batteries. The Lithium battery can be used with a 9ah SLA battery in the STD Seahorse Kontikis giving close to 23 minutes run time. In the GPS Seahorse, it is used with the larger 14ah SLA battery and gives 30 minutes run time. Unless you already have a Seahorse Lithium Charger, please order the battery with a charger.
Lithium Batteries require a specialised Lithium charger. Using a normal battery charger will damage the battery, and could cause it to explode. Unless you already have a Seahorse Lithium Charger, please order the battery with a charger. Lithium batteries, like other batteries are not waterproof, and will suffer damage if submerged. This type of damage is NOT COVERED under warranty.
